Professional Bio
Dr. Petursson is a licensed psychologist in the state of Pennsylvania since 2014 and is credentialed through PsyPACT to meet virtually with clients in participating states. Dr. Petursson is passionate about working with adults as they explore what is not working well in their lives and what changes will help improve their lives. She has refined her skills in treating individuals with substance use problems through experiences working across multiple settings, including university settings, VA, inpatient settings, nursing care facilities, and private practice. Additionally, these and other professional experiences allowed her to hone her skills in effectively working with a variety of other disorders, including chronic pain, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and other mental health concerns. Dr. Petursson leans into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Mindfulness-based approaches while tailoring treatments to the individual client. She is dedicated to establishing a safe space where each client can feel comfortable to discuss their needs.
After completing her bachelor’s degree at the Ohio State University (OSU) and receiving a Master’s degree in Addictions and Offenders from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), Dr. Petursson obtained a Master’s degree and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in 2013. She completed her internship at the University of Iowa University Counseling Services and her fellowship at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System in the Center for Treatment of Addictive Disorders (CTAD). For the past decade, Dr. Petursson was employed by VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. She worked with Veterans in a VA primary care outpatient clinic for several years prior to working with Veterans through the general behavioral health clinic through one of the VA hospitals. She is proud to have been able to serve our country’s Veterans.
