W01 - AI Technologies in Ethical Practice Use Cases and Ethical Decision-Making

Program Description: This workshop covers how large language models work, how to prompt them effectively, and where they currently fit in psychological practice. Using case vignettes, participants apply core ethical principles, including autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, fidelity, and justice, to real practice decisions involving AI, then evaluate outputs against professional and regulatory standards.
Program Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able too...
1. List three current use cases of LLMs in the practice of psychology.
2. Describe two ethical issues when using any AI technology, including the potential for algorithmic bias and its impact on diverse populations.
3. Identify the core ethical principles that apply to a clinical vignette involving AI use, and articulate which principle takes precedence and why.
4. Construct an effective prompt for ethical decision-making with a large language model, and evaluate its output against professional and regulatory standards.
W02 - Recognizing and Reporting Suspected Child Abuse in Pennsylvania

Program Description: In 2013 and 2014 Pennsylvania enacted numerous changes to the Child Protective Services Law. The purpose of this program is to review the signs leading to the recognition of child abuse and the reporting requirements for suspected child abuse in Pennsylvania. Those mandated reporters who complete this course will fulfill their mandatory requirements for licensing renewal. This workshop describe the child welfare services in Pennsylvania, defines important terms related to the child abuse reporting law, and delineates the responsibilities of mandated reporters, ways to recognize child abuse, and other topics.
Program Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able too...
1. Explain the definition/categories of child abuse as outlines in the PA Child Protective Services Law (CPSL).
2. List the common indicators of suspected child abuse.
3. Describe the roles and responsibilities for persons required to report suspected child abuse (mandated reporters).
4. Apply the requirements and procedures for reporting suspected child abuse.
5. Describe the penalties for mandated reporters who willfully fail to report suspected child abuse.
W03 - Advances in Suicide Prevention Intervention

Program Description: This presentation will focus on research advances in suicide prevention and how these findings inform our understanding of clinical interventions. Specifically, there will be an overview on findings related to evidence-based practices in suicide prevention care and a focus on the key skills needed by all psychologists when working with individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviors.

Cancellation Policy
All workshop registration cancellation requests must be made in writing to Rachel Bowers, Administrative Coordinator (rbowers@papsy.org) - no phone cancellations will be accepted. Cancellation requests made more than 72 hours before the workshop will result in a 50% refund of the registration fee. PPA cannot postpone registrations and/or transfer fees to future events.
Cancellations made less than 72 hours before the workshop and no shows for the Fall 2024 Virtual Continuing Education Conference will result in forfeiture of the entire registration fee.
PPA recognizes that serious issues, out of the attendee’s control, may arise and could prevent an attendee from cancelling their registration by the cancellation deadline. Please contact PPA within one week of the final date of the conference if you have any questions about your cancellation.
