Foundations of Ethical Practice: Using ethics to improve the quality of services and increase career satisfaction
This home study defines ethics as it applies to psychologists and describes how psychologists can adopt ethical attitudes and practices to help them improve the quality of their services and their career satisfaction. Specifically, it describes the relationships between laws, risk management strategies, and ethics; identifies core philosophical traditions that can help psychologists understand their roles and obligations; describes the relationship between foundational ethical principles and the enforceable standards in the APA Ethics Code; describes an ethical decision-making process based on principle-based ethics; identifies strategies that can help psychologists to live closer to their ethical ideals; and explains how psychologists can use the Ethics Acculturation Model to help them reflect on their values and goals.
This program qualifies as the ethics requirement as mandated by the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology.
Program Learning Objectives: At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Define positive ethics and provide examples.
- Compare and contrast laws, risk management strategies, and ethics.
- Identify philosophical traditions that can help inform ethical behavior.
- Describe the relationship between ethical principles and the enforceable standards within the APA Ethics Code.
- Describe principle-based decision-making.
- Describe the virtues that will help psychologists maintain and enhance their ethical behavior and career satisfaction.
