Erich Fromm was an influential public commentator in post-World War II United States. His book, The Art of Loving, was one of the best-selling books of the 1960s and still resonates with many readers today. This home study reviews the salient ideas of Fromm concerning love, considers recent research related to loving, and addresses the relevance of his work for psychotherapists today.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this program, the participants will be able to:
1. Describe what Erich Fromm meant by love
2. Analyze contemporary research concerning love
3. Apply Fromm’s concepts of love to their relationships with their patients
