PPAGS Board of Directors Job Descriptions

PPAGS BOARD OF DIRECTORS INFORMATION

PPAGS is the student membership organization of PPA that serves as the representative body for psychology graduate students in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. PPAGS represents graduate students in all areas of study within the field of psychology, promotes graduate student leadership development, communicates and advocates for the concerns of graduate students, establishes and maintains channels of communication between PPAGS and schools, universities, training centers, institutions, and the psychological community, and promotes the exchange of information among these groups. PPAGS works to increase graduate student involvement in PPA activities, advocacy efforts, and governance to both facilitate the professional development of graduate students and to promote continuity of leadership, membership, and involvement in PPA. The seven elected PPAGS officers include the Chair, Chair-Elect, Past-Chair, Communications Focus Chair, Diversity Focus Chair, Programming Focus Chair, and State Advocacy Coordinator. At the time of their election, officers shall be student members of PPA.

Responsibilities

Elected officers are required to participate on all PPAGS conference calls which occur quarterly.  Officers must be willing to dedicate the necessary time to sufficiently prepare for these conference call meetings and provide follow-up.  Officers are also expected to be liaisons to other boards and committees as assigned, to submit quarterly reports related to activities within their position, to participate on conference calls, and to communicate regularly over a closed PPAGS Board of Directors listserv. Officers are expected to spearhead projects and plans related to their position, as approved by the PPAGS Board of Directors, and as assigned by the PPAGS Chair. They are accountable throughout the year for making progress and for meeting goals.

Time Commitment

Participation in PPAGS leadership is voluntary. Those elected to PPAGS positions must be willing to dedicate a significant amount of time to this service-oriented role. Students wishing to apply for a position on the Board of Directors should consider the personal commitment involved. Think about where you will be in your academic career during the term you intend to serve. It is important to consider whether future responsibilities impede your ability to dedicate a sufficient amount of time to serve effectively. While participation on the PPAGS Board of Directors is a fantastic professional development experience, we recognize the demands of graduate school and ask that students carefully consider the level of commitment required prior to application.
