"Celebrating our Past, Creating our Future”
Dear Colleagues:
Come and join the celebration of
PPAs 75th Anniversary at the 2008 Annual Convention in
Harrisburg! Our state capitol is the site of advocacy for laws
promoting psychology as a profession and public access to services.
Our
celebration is being held at the Hilton Harrisburg, a past recipient
of our
Psychologically Health Workplace Award! This year, you can sample
the value that PPA brings to its members, socialize and network
with colleagues, obtain quality CE credits, and learn about
PPAs programs and initiatives.
Our anniversary theme, Celebrating
Our Past and Creating Our Future, is a fitting tribute
to those leaders who have worked to define psychology
as we know it within the state of Pennsylvania.
Participants at this years convention will
have the unique opportunity to hear past PPA presidents give
a historical perspective as they discuss challenges faced during
their tenure at the helm of our association. Our theme is also
a call to arms for those leaders who will advance
our profession into the future. For this perspective, we are
honored to host Admiral Dennis Blair, USN (Retired), as our
keynote speaker to discuss long-term organizational success
and the importance of recognizing that the whole is always greater
than the sum of its parts. See page 14 for more details.
Knowing that the future lies in the
hands of our students, we welcome back David Ballard, Psy.D.,
MBA,
to speak at our Psychology in Pennsylvania Luncheon. Dr. Ballard
is currently the Assistant Executive director of Corporate Relations
and Business Strategy at the Practice Directorate of the American
Psychological Association. He was unstrumental in developing
our award winning Pennsylvania Psychological Association of
Graduate Students (PPAGS). Dr. Ballard will discuss ways to
engage early career psychologists in the ever-changing professional
marketplace. To learn about PPAs initiatives to carry
our profession forward, attend the General Assembly meeting
on Wednesday for a review of our newly revised strategic plan.
An update on current PPA efforts will occur at the Town Hall
Plenary Session on Friday.
If our speaker line-up is not enough
to entice you to attend our celebration, will food work? After
all, this is a party! We will have our Psychopharmacology Breakfast
Symposium and 75th Anniversary Welcoming Reception on Wednesday,
our Annual Banquet and Exhibitors Cocktail Party on Thursday,
and our Psychology in Pennsylvania Luncheon and Student Networking
Reception on Friday. A continental breakfast and refreshments
are offered daily. New this year are 18 mind-body health workshops
being offered free-of-charge to the public. So, as you see our
party guest list is growing!
Please dont miss this opportunity
to come to Harrisburg to Celebrate Psychology and PPA!
Sincerely,
Andrea M. Delligatti, Ph.D.
President
