Important training experiences include internship at The Child Psychiatric Center at St. Christopher's Children's Hospital, Psychological Pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania, Children's Seashore House, and the Therapeutic Preschool associated with CHOP. I have been in peer supervision for over 30 years with a group of child psychologists. I participate in PSPP events and have presented in their programs. I have been a co-facilitator for PCPE seminars. I am a mentor in the PSPP mentor programs and I supervise graduate students and other child psychologists.
Presently President of the young organization The Philadelphia Declaration of Play, an organization creating partnerships and alliances with other Phila. organizations to raise consciousness, educate and provide more child initiated free play both at home and at school. I am committed to supporting the appropriate developmental needs of children and challenging the cultural shifts that do not honor the appropriate needs of children and adolescents. To this end I was one of 12 first generation ambassadors in the Decade of the Child, an international initiative primarily sponsored by the Alliance for Childhood International. I was one of very few psychologists involved in this large initiative, helping to bring mental health issues into a primarily education focused view of children.
I hold both the internal and external subjectivities of both child and parent in my work with children. I am dedicated to work with parents to help them understand their particular child, appropriate developmental expectations and the issues from their past that are triggered in their parenting. Strengthening the relational bond between parent and child is of utmost importance to me. I am mindful that this is not always possible but am committed to this goal. I specialize in work with very young children and parents, trauma, and chronic illness.
