Why You Should Join the Pennsylvania Psychological Association (See our video on YouTube)
Advantages for continuing education:
The Pennsylvania Psychological Association consistently provides programs of continuing education both online, in home study courses and at workshops throughout the state that focus on the needs of Pennsylvania psychologists. Our Continuing Education Committee focuses on topics that are relevant and necessary for maintaining competence in practice and provide you with an advantage in the competitive world of contemporary counseling and psychotherapeutic services, all for a much reduced rate.
Advantages for a safe and worry-free practice:
Pennsylvania Psychological Association members are consistently informed and up-to-date about issues that are relevant to the practical application of our skills and talents. From issues regarding consent to treatment, to insurance reimbursement, to malpractice trends, the Pennsylvania Psychologist, our Internet listserv, our Web site and our e-mail alerts keep PPA members up to date and confident that they know what is going on in the world of Pennsylvania Psychology. There is no other organization in the State that works just for you.
Advantages for running and marketing your practice:
Membership gives you access to a wealth of resources for running and marketing your practice. PPA staff are available to members to answer basic legal and ethical questions when they occur. The PPA members only section of the Web site has discussion boards for ethical issues as well as for students and for new practitioners who want to network and develop contacts and strategies for practice building. The PPA listserv provides access to over 600 other psychologists, many of whom are happy to provide you with pointers about how to go about managing a practice in the variety of settings Pennsylvania offers to psychologists. PPA membership is like having a firm of consultants available on call. But all it costs is your annual dues.
Advantages to joining your voice to that of thousands of other PA Psychologists:
Membership gives you a voice to reach legislators, the media, and the public. We have made great strides in establishing and protecting licensure for psychologists in this state. We have advocated and achieved continuity of care legislation. We have clarified and improved Medicare rules for psychologists. We have challenged the manipulative and wasteful practices of managed care and gotten results. These efforts do not occur in limbo. They happen only in the context of the active support of members throughout the state with phone calls, letters, visits to legislators and, of course members' dues and additional donations. This can only happen with the coordination made possible by an active state organization.
Advantages to having benefit packages provided by your own profession:
The Pennsylvania Psychological Association has been actively working on getting benefits for their members. These benefits are both for increasing the ease of practice and for the personal needs of psychologists in private practice. This includes more then just the previously mentioned reduced price access to high quality continuing education, expert advice, and contact with other psychologists via the Web and in the monthly Pennsylvania Psychologist. It also includes credit card processing for low fees that can’t be approached by a regular bank or processing organization. It includes disability insurance at discounted group rates. It includes low cost access to lawyers who specialize in mental health issues. And through regular surveys of PA psychologists, the needs of our profession are constantly being re-assessed so our organization can take care of its members. All this, and more, for only the cost of your annual dues.
