Home Study Continuing Education programs offered by the Pennsylvania Psychological Association and APA-approved sponsors (such as PPA) are acceptable for license renewal in Pennsylvania. Up to 15 contact hours per renewal period may be used for each biennium. The program must have specific learning objectives and the provider must evaluate the extent of learning that has taken place.
Are teleconferences considered a home study? If a course is given in real time and the participants can interact with the instructor and ask questions in real time, it is considered a live program. However, if the course is not in real time (e.g., prerecorded) then it is considered home study and requires a post-test.

This home study contains 16 articles concerning social factors related to unhealthy weight gain, principles of weight loss, and the roles of psychologists in facilitating that loss, including psychological evaluations for candidates for bariatric surgery.
Ethical Practice is Multicultural Practice
Three (3) Home Study Continuing Education Credits

This multicultural home study contains 17 articles dealing with racial and ethnicity diversity and culturally-responsive practices. Topics covered include (1) ethical standards and multicultural competence, (2) cultural bias, (3) power and privilege, (4) culturally-responsive assessment, (5) practice and therapy and (6) advocacy and social activism. Ethical guidelines that correspond to the various topics discussed are highlighted to emphasize the importance of ethical practice through multicultural practice. This program qualifies as the ethics requirement as mandated by the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology.
Introduction to Ethical Decision Making
Three (3) Home Study Continuing Education Credits

This home study continuing education program will introduce ethical decision making to psychologists. The articles in this home study will review ethical decision making skills that include cognitive factors, emotional dynamics, and intuitive processes. The course content reviews ethical decision making from the perspective of principle-based ethics and gives specific examples for psychologists to apply ethical decision making skills. This program qualifies as the ethics requirement as mandated by the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology.

Five (5) Home Study Continuing Education Credits

This home study continuing education program is based on the book, Staying Focused in the Age of Distraction by Elizabeth Hoffman, Ph.D., and Christopher Hoffman, LCSW. Staying Focused incorporates findings from positive psychology, the psychology of religion and spirituality, mindfulness, and other areas of religion and psychology. It references this information when providing readers with step-by-step techniques that help them engage in value focused and meaningful activities. The book is provided in this home study.
Competence, Advertising, Informed Consent and Other Professional Issues
Three (3) Home Study Continuing Education Credits
(75% score or higher required)
This home study is based on 22 articles dealing with competence, advertising, informed consent and other professional issues. Several of the articles deal with innovations in professional practice including on-line therapy, use of experimental techniques, and the psychologists’ role with psychotropic agents. All articles deal with practical issues faced by professional psychologists. This program qualifies as the ethics requirement as mandated by the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology.
Ethics and Professional Growth
Three (3) Home Study Continuing Education Credits

This home study is based on 22 articles dealing with ethics and professional growth. Topics covered include the ethical foundations of self-care, professional and personal stressors of psychologists, and the integration of personal values into professional practice. An emphasis is placed on ways to maximize the rewards and benefits of being a psychologist. This program qualifies as the ethics requirement as mandated by the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology.
Confidentiality, Record Keeping, Subpoenas, Mandated Reporting and Life Endangering Patients
Three (3) Home Study Continuing Education Credits

This home study is based on 13 articles dealing with confidentiality, record keeping, subpoenas, mandated report and life endangering patients. An emphasis is placed on the ethical foundations of professional standards and ways that psychologists can interpret laws to maximize patient and public welfare. This program qualifies as the ethics requirement as mandated by the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology.
Readings in Multiculturalism
Four (4) Home Study Continuing Education Credits
(75% score or higher required)
This home study is based on 20 articles from a variety of sources. Some articles address general issues of multiculturalism, sensitivity, pseudo-transference and prejudice. The collection has been designed to give the reader both an overview of important multicultural themes and information about working with individuals from specific groups.
Foundations of Ethical Practice
Six (6) Home Study Continuing Education Credits
(75% score or higher required)
This home study is based on 16 articles primarily from the Pennsylvania Psychologist, concerning the foundations of ethical practice. These articles review information concerning major ethical theories and their relationship to the ethical standards of psychologists, the regulatory mechanisms governing professional psychology, and important risk management principles. Emphasis will be on how psychologists can use ethics to improve the overall quality of their work, as opposed to just minimizing their risks .This program qualifies as the ethics requirement as mandated by the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology.
Ethics and Boundaries
Three (3) Home Study Continuing Education Credits
(75% score or higher required)
This home study is based on 16 readings from the Pennsylvania Psychologist, which were selected and modified to apply to all psychologists in the United States and Canada. The specific topics covered include boundary issues that are concurrent or consecutive; overt and subtle; and unavoidable and avoidable. This program qualifies as the ethics requirement as mandated by the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology.
Pennsylvania’s Psychology Licensing Law, Regulations and Ethics
Six (6) Home Study Continuing Education Credits
(75% score or higher required)
This home study program covers the Professional Psychologists Practice Act and regulations promulgated by the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology pursuant to the licensing law, including the State Board of Psychology Code of Ethics. A study guide is included along with the reading material and the examination. This course covers the content that psychologists-in-training need to know to pass the state portion of the licensing examination for psychologists. Psychologists receive continuing education credits upon completion and return of the home study examination and evaluation form. This program qualifies as the ethics requirement as mandated by the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology.
