This home study contains 20 articles taken from a variety of
sources including the Pennsylvania Psychologist, and
other state association publications dealing with multicultural
issues. Some of the articles address general issues of multiculturalism,
sensitivity, pseudo-transference and prejudice. The majority concern
specific topics such as ethical issues, assessment, education
and psychotherapy, often with specific groups including African-Americans,
Latinos, Native Americans, Koreans, Indians, Pakistanis, and Old
Order Amish. The collection has been designed to give the reader
both an overview of important multi-cultural themes and information
about working with individuals from specific groups.
CREDITS OFFERED: Four (4) Continuing Education
Credits for Psychologists and Educators.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of this
home study program, the particpant will:
1. Have a greater effectiveness in dealing with individuals
from a variety of ethnic groups;
2. Have a better understanding of the psychological underpinnings
of a variety of issues facing minority individuals;
3. Acquire new skills in assessment of individuals from a variety
of specific minority groups;
4. Acquire new skills in psychotherapy with individuals from
a variety of specific minority groups; and
5. Have a better understanding of what types of information
and skills they will need in working with individuals from different
backgrounds.
