Ethics & Boundaries - USA
This program qualifies for 3 APA-approved Continuing
Education credits and fulfills the ethics requirement for the
state of Pennsylvania. PPA is also an approved provider for Act
48 credits as required by the PA Dept of Education.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This home study is based on 16 readings from
the Pennsylvania Psychologist which were selected and modified
to apply to all psychologists in the United States and Canada.
The specific topics covered include boundary issues that are concurrent
or consecutive (Marsh, 1997), overt and subtle (Gordon, 1997,
2000), and unavoidable and avoidable (Gold, 1997; Lemoncelli,
2000). Other readings consider multiple professional roles with
patients (Marsh, 1996), handling intrusive patients (McAleer,
1995), and sexual exploitation (Anonymous I, 2000; Anonymous II,
2001; Jennings & Knapp, 2001; McAleer & Jennings, 2000;
Siepel, 2000; Slattery, 2000; Tepper & Knapp, 1997; Wallach,
2001). Finally, Zur (2000) presents another perspective and argues
that multiple relationships are often harmless and sometimes even
help create a better therapeutic effect. However, Gavazzi and
Knapp (2000) reiterate cautions for psychologists who are considering
multiple relationships.
